APR Penalty Status — 2024-25
NCAA APR penalties apply to teams with a multiyear APR below 930 and are determined after each academic year’s data submission.
Level One Penalty: Limits teams to 16 hours of athletics activities per week over five days (vs. 20 over six days), with the four lost hours replaced by academic activities.
Level Two Penalty: Includes all Level One restrictions, plus limits out-of-season athletics activities to four hours per week (replaced by academic activities) and requires a 10% reduction in playing season and contests — or cancellation of the non-championship segment (spring practice in football).
Postseason Participation Benchmark: Teams must achieve a minimum multiyear APR of 930 to participate in NCAA championships. This is a benchmark for participation — not a penalty — similar to qualifying through competition.
